Notes From Wednesday Board of Education Meeting

The end-of-the-school-year board of education meeting means North Canton City schools approve many resignations and contract changes — and find out how much money is left over from the year

Thanks to the levy passed last November, jobs stimulus money and planning, the North Canton City School District wrapped up the 2010-2011 school year with more money left over than expected.

That’s great news for the district, said Treasurer Todd Tolson at the Wednesday morning board of education meeting. Taking in less state money than years before, the district plans to spend money in the coming year only to maintain services and will forgo those extras that fall into the “wants” category.

Tolson said he projected the district would end the year with $156,000; however, it ended with $3.3 million.

“We’re going to need every one of those dollars just to sustain ourselves,” Tolson said.

In other business, the board also approved several resignations and changes in contracts. You can find those items in the agenda in the PDFs portion of this update.

The board will meet again at 6 p.m. July 14 in the Media Center.
