North Canton Students Rally Behind Grieving Classmates

More than 200 North Canton Middle School students dressed in orange Tuesday to support a pair of classmates touched by tragedy.

Earlier this week, more than 200 students arrived at North Canton Middle School wearing Viking orange in support of two classmates recently devastated by the unexpected loss of their father.

The students organized it with cell phone texts and social media messages. They planned it without the help of teachers. They did it to convey a feeling that couldn’t be expressed in words.

“Spontaneously, without any adult assistance, coaxing, or knowledge, hundreds of. . .friends and fellow students arrived to school (on Tuesday) wearing orange,” said NCMS teacher Todd Dannemiller. “This alone is no small feat. We don't see this kind of participation on Spirit Day!”

“I think it was just very heart warming. . .an amazing show of support,” said NCMS counselor Terri Simmons.
