Kent State Stark Concert Band to Perform Tuesday

Free concert will include traditional marches, big band music and holiday favorites.

The Kent State Stark Concert Band will present a concert of traditional marches, big band music and holiday favorites at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Kent State University at Stark Fine Arts Theatre, located at 6000 Frank Ave. N.W. in Jackson Township.

The concert is free and open to the public. However, tickets are required and may be obtained by calling the box office at 330-244-3348 between 1 to 5 p.m. weekdays.

The award-winning ensemble is comprised of more than 70 performers, including talented high school and college students, faculty and community members – several of whom reside in North Canton.

The fall program will include orchestral selections in addition to two choices that will be performed with vocal accompaniment. Special guest vocalist Zachary Charlick will join the band for "Pie Jesu" from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Requiem Mass.

Charlick, a fourth-grader at Strausser Elementary in Jackson Township, has held stage roles at the Players Guild Theatre, with Carnation City Players in Alliance, at the Jackson School for the Arts Summer Camp and Jackson Community Theater.

The evening's performance will conclude with A Christmas Festival, a medley of holiday classics including "Joy to the World," "Deck the Halls," "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," "Hark the Herald Angels Sing," "Silent Night" and others.

Established in 1985, the concert band is currently under the direction of Conductor Richard Kibler, a music administrator/band director at Lake Local Schools.
