Hoover High Tennis Team Hopes Big Burritos Equal Big Bucks in Fundraiser

Student athletes ask burrito lovers to come to Chipotle Feb. 23

The Hoover High School tennis team hopes heaping burritos and the thought of helping local sports teams will make its current fundraiser a success.

Student athletes ask everyone come between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Feb. 23 to the North Canton Chipotle, 1472 N. Main St., to support the teams and help them raise money for uniforms and other costs.

Chipotle will give half its proceeds to the boys tennis team, which competes in the spring, and the girls team, which competes in the fall. Both train all year round.

The fundraiser will take some of the financial burdon off the school district, said Suzanne Bourlas, parent volunteer for the tennis teams.

“We’re just trying to get the community’s support and get the word out because, just like many teams, we are in desperate need of funds just to cover our expenses,” said Bourlas,  also a North Canton Middle School teacher and parent of Hoover High School students.

Bourlas hopes North Canton residents remember they’re also helping a new business when they come to Chipotle Feb. 23. The restaurant, known for its massive burritos, opened in November.

Patrons need to bring in the attached flyer (see the PDFs section of this story) in order for the sale to go toward the tennis teams. Bourlas suggests printing them out ahead of time because she and others aren’t allowed to hand them out at the door.

Bourlas said it’s a great excuse to take the family out for dinner, and it supports local teams that are “small but mighty.” (She said the teams have about 25 girls and even fewer boys.)

“It’s just basically an incredible fundraising opportunity because it supports a local business, and it supports our school, of course,” she said.

Heading the teams is Coach Ryan Shaffer and assistant coaches Lisa Albertson and Ron Thomas.
