Hoover High National Honor Society Makes Saturday a 'Super Saturday' by Giving Back
This Saturday isn't an ordinary Saturday — it's a Super Saturday. Why? Hoover High National Honor Society members will be all over North Canton doing service activities
You may want to do something extra special for someone Saturday, because "service" will be the word of the day around the North Canton community.
The Hoover National Honor Society (NHS) members will participate in the annual Super Service Saturday.
NHS consists of juniors and seniors who meet the required grade point average and are then invited to a membership information meeting, where the selection process is explained.

Super Service Saturday started eight years ago because the NHS wanted a signature project. Flo Rankin, library media specialist at and also one of the coordinators of the annual event, said they are required by the national constitution to do a chapter project each year. Service is one of the tenets of NHS, she said.
Rankin looks forward to this day and believes it's a beneficial experience for the students.

"It's fun for me to help the students learn to give back to the community, as well as to help others who may not have the same opportunities and benefits as North Canton teenagers," she said.
On Saturday, the 157 NHS members will go to their chosen place of service at 9 a.m. They will volunteer their time during the day at various community activities and then they will spend the evening at working on additional service projects. The students will finish at 9 p.m.
Students have the opportunity to choose from a variety of service opportunities. The various community activities include Habitat for Humanity, the Stark County Humane Society, building clean-up at painting ceiling tiles for Aultman Hospital, Project Linus blankets, Hattie Larlham cards, St. Luke's Lutheran Community and the annual Rock-a-Thon.
NHS members will take rocking chairs to the North Canton and rock all day to collect financial donations for .
Rankin said the students try to keep in contact with the various organizations throughout the year. They have their core projects they continue to do every year, but they try to add new service opportunities as well.
