WATCH: Hi-Lo's, City Officials Send Off Gallina With Song and Proclamation

Mike Gallina, outgoing superintendent of North Canton City Schools, got a sweet send-off Monday night before the City Council meeting

The singing group the Hi-Lo's wore their best black and orange and showed up at North Canton City Council Chambers Monday night to send off Superintendent Mike Gallina.

Gallina will serve his last day as superintendent of North Canton City Schools June 30 before heading off to AultCare Health Network for his new position as director of outreach and organizational development.

Dozens of people, including family and district personnel, packed the room to support Gallina that night.

Mayor David Held presented Gallina with a proclamation, saying proclamations from the mayor aren't a common occurrence and they come with the support of the Council members and city in general.

Gallina's father, Bob Gallina, shared his sentiments that night, too.

"When (Mike) left *Minerva, we were all sad, but when I thought about where he was going, I thought, 'That's good. It's here. It's a good place.'"

He said his son is a great leader, but much of his success can be chalked up to the community.

"You can lead, but if you don't have good followers, it's not going to happen," Bob Gallina said.

Gallina serves on boards for the , North Canton Area Chamber of Commerce,  Advisory Committee (just to name a few), and plans to keep those positions that tie him to the community.

It's because of those strong ties that Gallina has been able to make such an impact in North Canton, Councilman-at-large Mark Cerreta said.

"As a lifetime resident here, I have never seen someone come in and make such a difference."

Cerreta also had a little fun with Gallina Monday night. .

*Editor's note: This was changed to reflect Gallina's previous place of employment, Minerva.
