On the Agenda: School Board to Discuss Purchase of 'Everyday Math' Textbooks

The North Canton City Schools Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. tonight in the Hoover High Media Center to discuss the textbooks and how the switch to "everyday mathematics" will affect students' schedules

At the Feb. 15 North Canton School Board meeting, board members weren't able to get answers to all the questions they had about the Everyday Mathematics Common Core State Standards Edition textbooks.

They'll hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. today in the Hoover High Media Center to further discuss the textbooks, which are aimed at kindergarten through fifth-grade classes and would be used during the 2012-2013 school year.

The board tabled the item at the Feb. 15 meeting at the suggestion of board member Chris Thomas. Thomas said if the math classes are doubled for those grades, it's unclear what other classes will suffer because of that.
