Gallina Bids Farewell & Amphitheater Plans: Week in Review

1. Gallina tells schools 'goodbye' — With his final day as North Canton City Schools superintendent approaching, Mike Gallina expressed his appreciation this week for students, staff and parents.

“I believe North Canton is a special place because there’s good spirit here. People work at things,” Gallina said. “So if I would share one thing with the people of North Canton, it would be to keep that spirit that makes this community so special.”

2. Pick a sign, any sign — Councilman Mark Cerreta presented three entryway sign options for the city at this week's meeting. Choosing a sign is one of many parts of North Canton's Master Plan. which sign looked the best, and they overwhelmingly picked the brick option. 3. Amphitheater on its way — North Canton residents seem excited about plans for an amphitheater in Bitzer Park during the Main Street Festival. The Rotary Club is leading the project, which is part of the city's Master Plan. Though construction , residents are already pleased with the announcement.

"YAY!!! This looks like fun," reader Karen Deitrick wrote on our Facebook fan page regarding the amphitheater.

4. Get that graffiti out of here — Though the business owners likely didn't tag their own buildings, the city believes they should promptly remove any graffiti.

City council discussed an ordinance Monday that would require business owners to remove graffiti in a certain amount of time. Council members debated whether two weeks or a month was an appropriate time frame.

5. What a guy — Many knew that Gary Zahler was a father and caseworker for the County of Summit Developmental Disabilities Board, but few knew about his avid work as an animal rescuer. That changed when his wife, Mary Lynne Zahler, nominated him for our feature.
