City Gives Update on Flooding Issues: Council Quick Takes

Prompted by a concerned resident, council members and city officials discussed what steps the city has taken to remedy flooding problems in the city

Here's a rundown of what happened at Monday night's North Canton City Council meeting:

  • A resident spoke to council about flooding issues, which had caused property damage to dozens of residents' homes this past summer, and asked what the city has done in the past nine months to remedy the problems. Mayor David Held said the city has appropriated $125,000 for the Zimber Ditch, ; $105,000 for storm sewer rentention/detention; $500,000 for sanitary sewers; and $50,000 for the Fairways Golf Course, .

"The final number is $800,000 that this Council has committed to bring relief down to the Zimber Ditch and other areas where we have sanitary sewer backups and flooding," Held said. "So I think that really demonstrates the commitment we have in the city."

Council President Jon Snyder said the city will plan a meeting within the next 60 days to meet with residents who were affected by flooding and provide an update on where some of the issues now stand.
