City Council Quick Takes: Council to Examine City's Master Plan

Councilman Mark Cerreta suggested city officials take a look at the city's Master Plan, which serves as a roadmap for business and developmental growth

Here's a recap of what North Canton City Council members discussed at Monday night's meeting:

  • Councilman Mark Cerreta suggested organizers present the plan at next week's meeting, saying "I would like everyone to see it if you haven't done that already, so you can see the excitement behind it." Council also discussed a $40,000 allocation for the Master Plan.
  • Decided to keep a resolution regarding meetings tabled. The changes would allow for the superintendent of the drinking water treatment plant (a non-voting member of the committee) to set the committee’s meetings and the agenda. Council members had tabled the ordinance so that more members of the committee could discuss it.
  • Mayor David Held announced the hired two part-time patrolmen. The part-time positions allow the city to keep its costs low, he said.
  • Held also said the city is switching all its street department trucks to a blend of a biodegradable soybean, sunflower and canola oil. The Akron Beacon Journal recently ran a story about North Canton's trucks.
  • Councilman Jeff Peters said the North Canton Civil Service Commission will conduct open examinations for the purpose of establishing the position of police officer. The test is 6 p.m. Tuesday at the North Canton Civic Center. Peters said those interested may register in person at City Hall from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. the rest of this week and the same time Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week.
  • Council set its next meeting for 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at North Canton City Hall. Monday is Presidents Day.
