City Council Didn't Take Flooding Victims Seriously: Letter to the Editor

Maria and Bob Wilson feel North Canton City Council members dismissed residents' flooding problems during the recent public meeting

To the North Canton City Council:

I have to admit that my husband Bob and I were quite disappointed at ). We had anticipated that more would have been done by now especially since this was not a new issue. It is one that has been going on for many years as you all heard at the meeting.

One by one, people poured out their hearts to you about their own issues, which collectively has affected us all, yet most of you sat there with either flat affect or looking at your watches because apparently we were boring you with our troubles. Your non-verbals spoke volumes to us as we looked to you for either sympathy or hope.

Other than who spoke from the heart and seemed genuinely concerned about our plight, most seemed inconvenienced by us. As someone mentioned (there), there seems to be no sense of urgency conveyed and we were insulted by your actions at the meeting.

I find it hard to believe that a plan for a buyout, which many of us are interested in will take up to two-three years. Why can't something be done to expedite this process because this has been an ongoing issue for so many years. We will have to live in fear of flooding every time that it rains. Since we the people affected by the flood in North Canton do not seem to be cared about by most of City Council, my question to you is why should we care?

After careful consideration my husband Bob and I have decided to proceed with the plans of changing our house to Section 8 and buying as many houses as we can in North Canton to do the same. With the extreme losses that we have incurred from our property (that we will never be able to recuperate as this is money we would have never spent in the first place), we have no choice but to consider this option in the best interest of our family's well being.

We also promise to keep in mind how we were treated at the City Council meeting when it comes time for re-election.
