Beacon: 1,700 Hoover Retirees to Lose Benefits in 2013

The Akron Beacon Journal reported online today that Hoover retirees will lose their health care starting Jan. 1, 2013

About 1,700 Hoover retirees will lose their health benefits starting in 2013, the Akron Beacon Journal reported today.

That number jumps to 2,200 once you add in dependents, and most of those people live in Northeast Ohio.

Whirlpool — which owned the former North Canton-based Hoover before selling the brand in 2007 — will provide retirees a stipend of up to $50 a month, the newspaper reported. They say that will help pay for a Medicare supplemental medical plan and up to $35 a month for a Medicare Part D supplemental pharmacy plan.
