Appointment of Stark County Sheriff to Come Next Week

Sheriff-elect Michael McDonald announced at the beginning of the month that he was not medically fit to take office as he continues to battle esophageal cancer

Stark County will have a new sheriff next week, but it won't be the man voters elected in November.

Sheriff-elect Michael A. McDonald, 54, had announced in early January that he is not medically fit to take office as he continues to battle esophageal cancer, and now Stark County Democrats will meet next week to appoint the next sheriff, according to the Canton Repository.

Tim Swanson is the county's current sheriff. He did not run for reelection in 2012, and voters elected McDonald to the position of Stark County sheriff.
