Akron Beacon Journal: Kasich Praises Stark State, Timken for Collaboration

Ohio Gov. John Kasich visited the North Canton college Thursday and touted the partnership between Stark State and the Timken Co.

Gov. John Kasich pointed to Stark State College and the Timken Co. as an example of how higher education can partner with businesses when he visited the campus Thursday, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

He talked about a Timken program that recruits high school students for apprenticeship and pays for them to attend Stark State, the newspaper reported today.

Timken also pays for the students to move beyond their associate degrees by getting a bachelor's degree at schools like Malone, Walsh University or Akron University.

''Being able to reach into those high schools and yank kids out to work at Timken, that's really cool,'' he said in the Beacon. ''The young people are the seed corn of the future.''

North Canton Patch was not invited by Stark State College to attend the small gathering of students, college administration and local business leaders Thursday.
