Walsh University Gunman? How About Man With Umbrella

Walsh students reported seeing a man with a shotgun on campus Sunday night. Turns out, it was a man using an umbrella on a rainy night.

What students the night of March 18 actually was a man holding an umbrella, police concluded.

A group of students had reported seeing a man carrying a shotgun between the Chapel and Farrell Hall. They gave what Walsh Police Chief Tommy Thomas described as a "vague description" of what they saw.

"In this day and age, you have to take these kinds of things very seriously," Thomas said, adding the police followed up by watching surveillance footage of the parking lot and saw nothing suspicous.

They later learned the time frame the students gave was about a half hour off, so they revisited the footage and found a man walking in the area the students described and holding an umbrella.
