Updated: Police Trying to Determine if Home Invasion Victims Were Targeted

Police found drugs and drug paraphernalia in the home of a couple who were tied up and robbed Saturday morning, and now they're trying to determine if the couple was targeted

say a could face charges of drug possession after they found scales, baggies and marijuana in their home.

Two men had broken into the couple's Meadowbrook Apartments home through the basement window. They woke up the couple, pointed handguns in their faces, duct taped their hands and feet and taped over their mouths. They demanded their cellphones and stole $1,000 cash, a pair of earrings and other belongings before leaving in an unknown car.

The woman told police she also had been raped. She was taken to Mercy Medical Center, where she was treated and released shortly after.

Police responded to the call in the 1100 block of Sunford Avenue SE at 3:54 a.m. Saturday.

Police found several items of drug paraphernalia in the couple’s apartment, but Chief Stephan Wilder said no charges have been filed against the couple. According to the police report, officers found the following items in the apartment: a digital scale with residue, three marijuana pipes, a pill bottle filled with marijuana, a baggie of marijuana, a glass container of marijuana, rolling paper and other items.

“The question is, is that associated with this whole set of events?” Wilder said, adding the department is working to determine that.

Wilder said police collected evidence left by the suspects, including a pair of gloves and a contact lens found on the bed. The female victim also bit the finger of one man, and he said they’re hoping for some evidence from that, too.

“Again, was it random or targeted? It’s a tough question, and that’s what’s playing on everyone’s minds,” Wilder said.

Anyone with information about the home invasion should call the North Canton Police Department at 330-499-5911.

The victims described the suspects as one black man about 6'1" and possibly known as Steve, while the other was a light-skinned black man about 5'7". Both suspects were wearing dark clothes with ski masks and gloves.
