Suspected North Canton Bomb Maker Arrested

Thomas R. Ward, 51, was caught Tuesday by North Canton and Canton police.

They got him. 

On Tuesday at 1 p.m., North Canton police arrested Thomas R. Ward at the Towne Manor Motel, located at 926 Tuscarawas St. West in Canton. 

"NCPD detectives had been checking on several community based housing locations when he was discovered to be staying at the motel," said North Canton Police Chief Stephan Wilder in a prepared statement. 

Canton police assisted in the arrest. 

Ward, 51, of North Canton, was charged with inducing panic, a fourth-degree felony, and unlawful possession of dangerous ordnance, a fifth-degree felony, said Wilder. 

He is being held in Stark County Jail; his bond was set at $200,000.

Ward's arraignment date is pending. 

Ward, who reportedly suffers from a mental illness, had been missing since May 20 after police found three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in his home, located at 1122 Sunford Ave. SE.
