McDonald, elected to Stark County sheriff in November 2012, says he is not medically fit to take office as he continues to battle esophageal cancer

The man Stark County voters elected to the position of Stark County sheriff will not take office after all.

Michael A. McDonald, 54, announced today that he is not medically fit to take office as he continues to battle esophageal cancer, according to CantonRep.com.

“These are very unfortunate circumstances and Sheriff-elect Chief McDonald’s family requests privacy during this difficult time and only asks for your prayers,” Sheriff Tim Swanson said in a statement to the Repository.
