Resident Shouts, Scares Intruders from Home: Police Blotter

The following information was supplied by the North Canton Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A resident in the 1100 block of Penny Street SE reported a burglary about 1:30 a.m. Monday. Someone got into the victim's car that was unlocked in the driveway before entering the victim's home through an unlocked front door. The resident heard noises on the first floor, and, after calling out, saw people running out the front door and through the cul de sac in the southeast direction. The only item stolen was the $25 car key.

Couple found drunk, lying on sidewalk

and responded to the 1000 block of Liberty Lane NW at 5:56 a.m. June 28 to find a North Canton man and woman in their 20s, intoxicated and unresponsive, lying on the sidewalk. They were awakened, arrested for disorderly conduct and eventually released to a "responsible person," according to the report.

Mysterious powder found in envelope

A woman in the 600 block of 4th Street NE told police a bill she opened had an unknown powder inside the envelope. The bill arrived between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. June 23.

Elderly person's family members suspected of theft

Police took a report of a theft from the elderly after a man's son reportedly cashed his checks without his knowledge. The victim's daughter wrote the checks without the victim's permission, the police report said. The checks totaled more than $16,000 and were written and cashed between 8 a.m. May 8 and noon June 18. The victim lives in the 1400 block of North Main Street.

Mailbox stolen on Yorkshire Trace

Someone took a $300 mailbox and post from a property in the 1500 block of Yorkshire Trace SE between 9 a.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. Monday. 

Kids run from police after drinking in park

Police responded to , 241 7th St. NE, and found several boys drinking Four Lokos in the park June 28. The boys fled on foot once police showed up. They were there drinking between 5:11 p.m. and 6:29 p.m.

Newspaper boxes stolen from Sunoco, Bill & Mary's

Someone stole a $500 newspaper sales box from the sidewalk near the Sunoco at 550 N. Main St. between noon Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday. 

A $500 Canton Repository newspaper box and $500 Akron Beacon Journal newspaper box were stolen from Bill & Mary's, 1022 N. Main St., between 4 a.m. July 2 and 3:12 a.m. July 3. 

Woman saw men breaking into cars

A woman in the 1300 block of South Main Street told police she saw two men breaking into cars about 3:25 a.m. June 24. An iPod and $15 cash were reported stolen from cars in the area.

Suspects try to steal cart full of items from Marc's

More than one person tried to leave at 1664 N. Main St. without paying for their cart full of items about 4 p.m. June 29. The suspects saw a loss prevention officer as they were leaving the store and fled without the merchandise, which totaled more than $200.

Copper piping reported stolen from Viking Street home

A former tenant in the 200 block of Viking Street NW is suspected of causing damage to the property and taking several feet of copper piping from the residence between noon January 1 and 6 p.m. June 19. Estimated losss is $3,350.
