Police Warn Residents About Sightings of Coyotes or 'Wolf-Like Animals' in North Canton

A resident in the 200 block of 7th Street NE reported seeing a "wolf-like animal" Thursday

North Canton police are urging residents to speak up if they see coyotes or similar-sized animals in their neighborhoods — especially if those animals are acting aggressively toward people or animals.

The department sent out a news release Thursday, saying a resident in the 200 block of 7th Street NE reported what he believed to be a wolf-like animal trying to get into a fenced-in ball park at Dogwood Park. On the other side of the fence was a flock of geese.

According to the department, several officers responded to search the ball fields and a wooded area of Dogwood Park. Police did not find the reported animal or definitive evidence that the reported animal was in the area.

Police say it's possible the animal was a very large dog or a coyote, as coyotes have been seen a few times in the city limits. The police department has previously contacted the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' state wildlife officers about similar sightings, and they are aware of the animals in Stark County.

In the news release, Police Chief Stephan Wilder said:
