Mountain Lion Sightings Reported in North Canton

Police Chief Stephan Wilder tells residents there's no need to panic because of the recent reported cougar sightings in and around North Canton, but do keep your safety and surroundings in mind.

Two North Canton residents called police Wednesday after seeing what they swore was a mountain lion in the city.

Media outlets have reported a mountain lion prowling in Canton (Fox 8 reported this story Tuesday, and the Canton Repository reported this one the same day about sightings in Canton).

In North Canton, one resident said she saw the animal walking near her yard at the southwest side of Price Park Saturday. She didn't report the incident until she heard about other sightings on the news.

And another resident said he saw a mountain lion as he was driving in the 100 block of Easthill Street SE.

Officers found no mountain lions in either case.

"I don't want to induce panic, but people just need to be aware of where they're walking and their general whereabouts," he said.

Wilder told North Canton Patch he doesn't recall any sightings of animals that could potentially be dangerous to pets or humans other than coyote sightings.
