North Canton Meth Lab Case Heads to Grand Jury

A Stark County grand jury will hear the case involving a North Canton man accused of running a meth lab out of his home.

James Clark Haldeman, 48, appeared in Canton Municipal Court Wednesday afternoon for a preliminary hearing, and his case was bound over to Stark County Common Pleas Court. According to the online court docket, a Stark County grand jury now will hear evidence in the case.

Jail officials confirmed Wednesday afternoon that Haldeman is still in Stark County Jail. He's held on a $100,000 cash surety bond.

Haldeman faces charges of trafficking in drugs, a third-degree felony; illegal manufacturing of drugs, a first-degree felony; and possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony.

North Canton police obtained a search warrant for Haldeman’s home at 221 Fairview St. SE, and on Dec. 20, the department’s Special Response Team searched his home for illegal drug activity.

“Officers found evidence of the manufacture and assembly of methamphetamine,” Chief Stephan Wilder told North Canton Patch last month. “Mr. Haldeman was arrested without incident when he arrived home while officers were completing their investigation and search.”

Agents from the Stark County Metropolitan Narcotics Unit also assisted at the home. No one was injured during the search.
