North Canton Man, Teen Caught During Botched Copper Theft

The men caused extensive damage to a Canton residence after trying to tear out its copper plumbing.

Two men were arrested Tuesday morning after Canton police cornered the pair in a for-sale home they were accused of robbing. 

The 19-year-old Plain Township resident, and a 20-year-old North Canton resident, were allegedly ripping copper piping out of the home, located in the 2000 block of Spring Avenue NE, when they were cornered by police, the Canton Repository reports. 

The older man was snagged by officers as he tried to flee the residence and the other was caught using a police K-9 dog.

According to jail records, the house was heavily damaged after the men snapped several waterlines while ripping out the copper plumbing. 

The men were arrested, charged with breaking and entering, resisting arrest and criminal damaging, and released on their own recognizance with pending hearings in Canton Municipal Court.
