North Canton Man Says Plastic Bag Caused Him to Crash Into Apartment

Power was out for a short time after a line was downed from crashing into a utility pole.

John Miller, a 19-year-old from North Canton, told authorities that he was driving with his windows down on Pittsburgh Avenue NW Sunday afternoon when a shopping bag flew into his face.

Without being able to see, Miller told police he swerved his red Dakota truck and hit a utility pole, then crashed into a Plain Township apartment building at 1039 Pittsburgh Ave. NW.

“He’s a young driver, inexperienced. It scared the living daylights out of him,” his father, Paul Miller, said in a Canton Repository story.

The teen was sent to the hospital following the crash. “The kid seemed OK, some cuts and scratches. He seemed a little shocked,” Stephen Slusny, who was inside of the apartment when the crash happened, told the Canton Repository.
