A North Canton woman was being treated in Mercy Medical Center Tuesday after threatening to shoot herself while her teenage children were in the house with her.
responded after 10 a.m. that morning to the 600 block of Summit Street SE, where a 41-year-old woman was threatening to shoot herself inside her home. The woman was on the phone with the Crisis Center, which had notified police, as police arrived.
"When she realized we were outside, she hung up and barricaded herself in her bedroom," Sgt. Shawn Bates said.
Police and officials responded and shut down Summit Street and notified neighbors, telling them to either evacuate or stay inside their homes until they took the woman into custody.
The children were removed from the home before police forced entry into the woman's bedroom and took her into custody at 11:22 a.m. Tuesday.
Emergency responders then took the woman to Mercy Medical Center.
No injuries were reported, and police still are investigating.
"There's a possibility she could be facing charges because the kids were in the house with her at the time," Bates said. "Any criminal charges would be under investigation. It could be possibly be child endangerment … or inducing panic due to the fact we had to close the road and notify neighbors because of her actions."
