Man Who Led Police on Chase Arrested After Asking for Directions: Police Blotter

were led on a short foot chase by a man who was later arrested by Jackson Township police after asking a gas station clerk for directions.

Here's what North Canton police said happened Monday:

The North Canton Police Department had gotten a call about 9:30 p.m. of a woman and a shirtless man running through the city. Police later found the man walking down Main Street, but when they approached him, he ran from them and got away.

North Canton Police called in the Summit County Sheriff's Department's K-9 unit to help search for the man, but Jackson Township police picked him up shortly after the search was called off.

The man had gone into a gas station at Whipple Avenue and Everhard Road and asked a clerk for directions. The clerk, who had been alerted before by the police, called police after talking to the man.

North Canton Police said the man was charged with misdemeanor offenses of obstruction, assault (for a scuffle he had with his girlfriend) and criminal damaging.

Car break-ins

A woman returned to her car after shopping at Giant Eagle, 1955 E. Maple St., and discovered someone had smashed her car's mirror and scratched the door. The incident took place between noon and 12:26 p.m. Sept. 9. Estimated damage is $500.

Someone stole an ID badge from a car in the 1500 block of Whitingham Street SE between 12:01 a.m. and 9 a.m. Sunday. 

A faceplate to a CD player and prescription eyeglasses were stolen from a car in the 100 block of Walsh Avenue between 10 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. Sunday. Estimated loss is $230.
