A North Canton man was sentenced to severn years and nine months in prison Wednesday for a Copley home invasion and multi-county police chase.

Summit County Common Pleas Judge Lynne Callahan sentenced David A. Williams, Jr., 31, of North Canton, and suspended his license for four years, according to a news release from Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh.

Williams broke into a home on Paxton Road in Copley March 1. A 23-year-old woman was home alone while Williams ransacked the home.

The woman called 911 as she watched Williams load his car with her belongings. Copley Police Detective Joe Krunich arrived at the home while Williams' vehicle was still in the driveway with Williams in the driver’s seat. When Krunich ordered Williams out of the car, he drove toward the officer, nearly hitting him.

Williams then drove away at a high speed, refusing to stop. Officers from Bath, Copley, the Medina County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio State Highway Patrol all attempted to stop Williams.

On May 30, Williams pled guilty to burglary, a second-degree felony; assault on a police officer, a fourth-degree felony; and failure to comply, a third-degree felony.
