Man Involved in Hit-and-Run Fights With Police When They Track Him Down: Crime Blotter

A North Canton man fled after a crash in the 100 block of South Main Street, then fought with police when they confronted him at his home in the 1000 block of Bel Air Drive NE March 2.

According to the North Canton police report, the 47-year-old man didn't stop after he was involved in the crash, which caused injuries to the other car's occupants. Police found the man a short time later at his home, and the man fought with police when they attempted to handcuff him.

He was found to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol and arrested for driving under the influence, a first-degree misdemeanor; assured clear distance ahead, a minor misdemeanor; hit-skip and resisting arrest, both first-degree misdemeanors.

A breakup at the laundromat

Police were called to New Berlin Laundromat, 1664 N. Main St., after a man and woman were causing a disturbance by yelling at each other outside the building. The couple arrived together before 3 p.m. March 5 to sort out their laundry because they were breaking up, and things got a little heated, they told police. The two said neither person became violent and they agreed to get along while sorting out their clothing, according to the incident report.

Break-in on Beechwood Avenue NE

Someone broke into a garage in the 1700 block of Beechwood Avenue NE between midnight Feb. 25 and 1 p.m. March 7 and stole a set of golf clubs and a compound bow valued at $1,000.

Unlocked car nearly stolen at Giant Eagle

Someone tried to steal an unlocked 1999 Dodge Caravan in the parking lot of Giant Eagle, 1955 E. Maple St., about 4:35 p.m. March 7. 

Break-in at Wynstone Circle home

A resident in the 1900 block of Wynstone Cirlce told police that someone forced his way into her home through a window at the back of the home. The person caused $700 in damages to the window frame, but nothing was stolen, according to the police report.

Unlocked, running pickup truck stolen

An unlocked, running Ford pickup truck was stolen from a driveway in the 1300 block of New England Drive SE just before 7 a.m. March 1. The truck is estimated at $16,000. The police report indicated a 17-year-old North Canton boy was arrested for the theft, which was a fourth-degree felony.
