UPDATE: Fire Department Rescues Man Threatening to Jump Off Hall of Fame Bridge

An unidentified man threatening to jump off the bridge triggered Thursday's Interstate 77 closure.

The sections of Interstate 77 surrounding the Hall of Fame Bridge, that were closed for half an hour Thursday afternoon due to a suicide threat, have been reopened, according to cantonrep.com.

The newspaper is reporting that the fire department used a ladder truck to get the suspected jumper down, who was uninjured and taken for mental evaluation. 

Further details on the incident have not yet been released.

Jackson Township police, fire and EMS crews rushed to the Hall of Fame Bridge on Thursday at about 3 p.m. after an unidentified person threatened to jump off the overpass, according to police radio traffic. 

Interstate 77 has been closed in both directions near the bridge due to the incident.

North Canton motorists are advised to use alternative routes. 

As of 4:10 p.m., all available personnel from Jackson's police and fire departments were at the scene.
