Gun Lock Giveaway Aimed at Child Safety

Enforcement isn't the only key in keeping North Canton and its youngsters safe.

On Tuesday evening, North Canton Police Chief Stephan Wilder provided hundreds of free gun locks and firearm safety kits to the community.

The giveaway was made possible by the police department, Project ChildSafe and Goschinski's Fin Feather and Fur Outfitters, which partnered up and donated the 600 locks and kits.

Wilder was joined by North Canton Fire Capt. Gary Coen and Eric Wentworth, manager of the Ashland-based gun and outdoorsman shop.

The small group handed out the free locks and materials at the Acme Fresh Market, located at 1474 N. Main St.

Wilder emphasized keeping guns out of the hands of local children was one of the driving forces behind the giveaway.
