Graffiti Artist 'Chewy' Arrested

Police arrest a 21-year-old North Canton man who they believe vandalized several buildings in the city

You might have seen the bubble letters spray-painted on several buildings around town: C-H-E-W-Y.

Well, police say they’ve caught the person behind the “Chewy” graffiti. Police have arrested Ethan M. Kibby, 21, of North Canton, in connection with several graffiti incidents around the city.

North Canton police have charged him with five counts of misdemeanor criminal damaging, while Canton police have charged him with vandalism, a fifth-degree felony.

Detective Randy Manse of the said Jackson Township police also are investigating related incidents but have not filed any charges.

Manse said Canton police arrested Kibby a week ago along with two others who are not charged with any crimes in North Canton.

He wasn’t sure why he has been writing “Chewy” (a word used in relation to marijuana) on buildings and Dumpsters, other than that’s his “artistic name.”

The Chewy graffiti made it into the North Canton Patch police blotter Aug. 5, and a North Canton Patch viewer also had about the Chewy graffiti.
