Funky Odor Dooms Suspected Chuck E. Cheese Weed Dealer: Best of the Blotter

Here are some of the weirdest police reports and incidents from departments across the region.

Here are this week's most bizarre police calls, reports and charges. All information was provided by police reports from departments in Patch communities. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Can't you smell that smell?  

On Feb. 16, a Fairlawn Chuck E. Cheese security guard pulled Lamar E. Hill outside of the children's arcade after detecting a strong marijuana odor emanating from his clothes.

The security guard – who also works as a Summit County sheriff's deputy – found eight bags of marijuana in Hill's possession, along with $360 in cash.

Hill, 25, of Akron, later admitted to stuffing a handful of the bags in the trash before exiting Chuck E. Cheese with security, according to a Fairlawn police report,

He was arrested and charged with trafficking in drugs, a fourth-degree felony.

Beware of the geek thugs

A Westlake man reportedly received several threatening phone calls on Feb. 6 from hackers that demanded money, saying they would crash his computer if he did not pay. 

The man believed the calls came from a support company he used to fix a computer problem, and said the men spoke with Indian or South Asian accents.

The victim did not pay, and his computer ended up crashing, according to a Westlake police report. The matter remains unresolved. 

Hold the "guac," add cops

Cuyahoga Falls police responded to the Howe Avenue Taco Bell on Feb. 17 after a customer reportedly produced a counterfeit bill to pay for her order.

While officers questioned the 23-year-old Cuyahoga Falls woman, they noticed an open can of beer hidden beside her and handed her an open container citation.

They advised the woman that detectives would investigate the alleged forgery incident.

Inept theft

, is accused of stealing more than $15,000 from Levin Furniture in Mentor.

Mentor Police Lt. Tim Allen said Gardner would cancel transactions at the store and credit the value of the purchase to a credit card.

During the last four months, she credited 32 transactions to the same card, Allen said.

The total value of the credited transactions was $15,474.

Gardner was arrested on Feb. 18 and charged with a felony count of theft. She was arraigned Tuesday in Mentor Municipal Court.

Judge John Trebets set her bond at $10,000, which was not posted.
