Fire Rips Through North Canton Home; 2 Firefighters Injured

The North Canton Fire Department responded to the residential blaze Wednesday night.

A fire, which tore through 1667 Meadowlane Dr. SE Wednesday night, caused $185,000 in damage and sent two North Canton firefighters to the hospital.

As the North Canton Fire Department reached the residence at 6:06 p.m., flames were shooting through the roof, said NCFD Fire Chief John Bacon.

It took about 30 minutes for firefighters to bring the blaze under control, but, at that point, the two-story home had already sustained heavy structural damage.

Bacon estimated the home itself would cost about $100,000 to repair, which didn’t include the $85,000 in property damage.

The residents, John and Judith Biris, were uninjured and were alerted to the fire after a smoke alarm was tripped.

Twenty four firefighters worked to subdue the blaze; two of whom were hospitalized for minor injuries.

The Fire Prevention Bureau is investigating the cause.
