Elderly Motorist Crashes Through North Canton Acme

A 78-year-old woman reportedly lost control of her sedan and smashed through the grocery store's large display windows.

An elderly North Canton woman zigged when she should have zagged late Sunday afternoon, causing her to smash through the display windows at the Acme Fresh Market, located at 1474 N. Main St.

Fortunately, the 78-year-old woman suffered only what appeared to be minor injuries, said North Canton Police Sgt. Shawn Bates.

Police weren't able to question the woman before she was taken to Aultman Hospital, but Bates's preliminary investigation concluded the woman lost control of her car in the Acme parking lot and jumped a curb before striking the grocery store.

The woman's car — a 2004 Ford Taurus — traveled about six to seven feet inside the store, knocking over a soda display.

No pedestrians or shoppers were struck and no other injuries were reported, said Bates.
