Dog Thrown in North Canton Sewer Dies; Reward Offered for Arrest

The dog was found paralyzed with punctured lungs and head trauma.

A non-profit animal rescue shelter is now offering a $1,600 reward for the arrest and conviction of the person who allegedly threw a dog from a car.

The mixed breed dog was found around 3:45 p.m. Saturday in a culvert filled with flowing water near the area of Whipple and Wise Avenues NW, according to Diane Aquino, owner of Jades Rescue . He had a purple collar with no tags or microchip, according to our news partner WEWS Channel 5.

Jades Rescue was responded to the area after being contacted by a witness who claimed to have seen a person in a white Ford Mustang throw the dog from the car, and then drive off.

“My husband pulled the dog out of the water,” Aquino said.

“He only could move his front two legs because he was paralyzed from the mid-section down,” she goes on to say.

The Aquinos then took the dog to the veterinarian clinic, where it had to be euthanized due to his injuries.

The veterinarian told the Aquinos that the dog had punctured lungs and had suffered spinal and head trauma which led to seizures.

The Aquinos can’t believe how some people could be so cruel to harmless animals. That's why they opened an animal rescue shelter in August of last year. It's located at 1113 Cleveland Ave SW in Canton.

The Aquinos said they have been receiving phone calls from people with information regarding the incident. The Stark County Sheriff’s Office has also been contacted.
