Announced at North Canton City Council Meeting: Shawn Bates to Step up as Police Sergeant

Mayor David Held made the announcement at tonight's North Canton City Council meeting

Mayor announced tonight that Shawn Bates, previously a patrolman with the , will assume the role of sergeant.

Held said the left an opening for a sergeant position. (The department has been and opting for sergeant positions to save the city money.) Held said he's pleased to have Bates step up to fill the role.

"Shawn does a real nice job in the city and we're pleased to have him," Held told everyone in council chambers tonight.

Bates will have his first sergeant shift Tuesday.
