An Undiscovered Treasure in North Canton

I hesitated to tell anyone about this gem — the new Hoover Trail — because I was tempted to keep it to myself.

I have never been one to spend a beautiful day indoors when I could be outside. Today was such a beautiful day for January that I put on my walking shoes and went exploring

I was on a mission to find the new Hoover Trail that runs from Marquardt Street, through the Sanctuary Allotment, and finishes behind on Seventh Street N.E. Last week I received a flyer in the mail from Stark Parks saying that the Hoover Trail behind the high school was now open. It took a little bit of effort to find it; but what a joy when I did find it! I want to tell one and all that North Canton now has a treasure for all to enjoy.

This trail is the nicest walking trail in Stark County! I can say this with assurance because I have walked just about every trail in the county and this is the first one that I absolutely fell in love with. It is only three-quarters of a mile long but those three miles are stunning. There are several ponds on the north side of the trail and a babbling brook flanks it on the south. There are trees and grasses to delight the eye and the sound of the brook making its course along the path provides nature's musical accompaniment to sooth one’s soul. I was so mesmerized with the trail that I neglected to think to take pictures until my journey had just about ended.

My feeble attempts to describe this undiscovered treasure cannot do it justice. You must experience it for yourself. You can see a map and a brief description by clicking here.

The best way to access the trail right now is via the school driveway that is immediately east of the Dogwood swimming pool. Don’t go to the main school drive; the one I am talking about runs between the pool and the practice athletic fields in front of the school. For some reason the trail isn’t quite completed to Seventh Street and you must venture up the drive about 100 feet to find the trail.
