North Canton Girl Donates Hair to Peers Fighting Cancer

Children who lost their hair due to cancer therapy and other disorders will have wigs made, in part, from the long locks Lily Wilson donated on Monday.

Lily Wilson, 7, of North Canton, just offered up a special gift that can't be purchased at a local toy or department store.

It's the kind of gift that's given without asking for anything in return.

On Monday, Wilson donated 12 inches of hair to Wigs for Kids, a Westlake charity that provides hair replacement systems and support for children who have lost their locks due to chemotherapy, radiation therapy, alopecia, trichotillomania, burns and other medical issues, according to wigsforkids.org.

Wilson, a Clearmount Elementary student,  started growing her hair for the good cause a year ago, and decided it was time to donate Monday at Headliners Salon and Day Spa in Canton, said Lily's mother, Michelle Dimitro Wilson.

"I was nervous at first, but (it) felt really good to help the kids," she said.
