Community Corner

"journey Stories" exhibit opening reception

North Canton Heritage Society is proud to

bring the Stark County community an exhibit from the Smithsonian Institution.

The exhibition, Journey Stories, will

open Monday Sept. 23 and run through Oct. 31 at the Heritage Society located at

185 Ream Ave. NW in North Canton, across the street from the North Canton

Public Library.

The Heritage Society

was chosen as one of eight venues to host the “Museums on Main Street” display,

made possible by the Ohio Humanities Council.  “Journey Stories” is a compelling Smithsonian exhibition that shows how

our evolving mobility changed a young nation and how transportation made us

grow. The stories of travelers express hope, the grim realities of forced

migration, difficult journeys, and the thrills of personal travel.

The exhibition, from the Smithsonian

Institution’s Museum on Main Street Program, will allow visitors to look where

others have traveled, and recall how their own family came to the United

States, whether by ship or jet plane. Visitors will have the opportunity to tell

their own stories, and see a photo exhibit “North Canton on the Move,”

representing how local residents moved from place to place through the years
