Whiz Kid: Orchard Hill Elementary Bowler Heads to Pepsi Tournament

Clayton Bunnell can bowl a 160 and he's just 11. He's on his way to the Pepsi USBC Youth Championships Bowling Tournament at the end of the month

This week's Whiz Kid comes to us from Kristina Bunnell, mother of Clayton Bunnell.

  • Clayton Bunnell, 11
  • Attends Orchard Hill Elementary in North Canton
  • Clayton, a bowler since the age of 5, was invited to the Pepsi USBC Youth Championships Bowling Tournament, a nationwide tournament open to all USBC Youth members. He will compete Feb. 26 in Wooster.

He bowls with his dad and coach, James Bunnell, at 77 Colonial Lanes on Saturday mornings, said his mother, Kristina Bunnell. His current average is 106 and his game high is 160. Beginning with qualifying during their leagues, youth bowlers may advance to a state finals event in Columbus, where they can compete against bowlers from across their state and also earn scholarships, she said.

"We're extremely proud of him for sticking with bowling," Kristine Bunnell said. "He gets better and better every year."
