What Should North Canton's New Year's Resolution Be?

If you could pick one for the city, what would you choose?

If you could pick a New Year's resolution for the city of North Canton, what would it be?

Would it have to do with North Canton police and fire services, traffic lights, the parks? You tell us, and don't hold back.

North Canton should aim to clean up old and decaying infrastructures that give the appearance that the town's best bdays are behind it. North Canton needs forward thinking leaders and residents. The old car lot and "Hummel's" grocery store across northwest of the fire department on Main Street need torn down and converted to an attractive and forward-thinking purpose. Ten-plus years is long enough for a vacant eye sore to be up for sale. Find a good new use or turn it into green space and await a good use (and I'm not talking about another bank or drug store). I pretty much feel the same way about the Charlotte school. Renovate it or tear it down and enhance the park. (See Jackson and Plain's latest park improvements) I understand the old Hummels has been purchased by the YMCA to serve as a child care center. I was very happy to hear that a N.C. organization of good reputation and vested interests in our town has purchased it. I hope their plans include some dramatic esthetic improvements.

Dr.O, I couldn't agree with you more. knock down the Spritzer building and put a new post office there. Maybe, when the Hoover suite grows, someone would use that property for a related business. The town is dying a slow death and nothing is being done to change the situation. Our planning commission needs to do some forward thinking!! Time to break up the "old mans club". I just wish I was smarter and younger and had skills to help.

RICKI RANDOLPH PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE PUT A LIGHT AT WHIPPLE AND WEST MAPLE STREET. IF YOU ARE TRYING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN FROM WEST MAPLE ONTO WHIPPLE, IT IS PRACTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE ! THE TRAFFIC COMING BOTH WAYS,, JUST MAKES IT UNSAFE AND VERY TIME CONSUMING, AS CARS BACK UP BEHIND YOU. I ALMOST ALWAYS HAVE TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN, THEN GET IN THE LEFT LANE TO TURN AROUND INTO A BUSINESS PARKING LOT, AND -THEN -PROCEED TO TURN RIGHT AGAIN, TO GET BACK ONTO WHIPPLE, GOING TOWARDS EVERHARD RD. A LIGHT REALLY IS NEED AT THIS INTERSECTION ! IT WOULD BE SO MUCH SAFER , AND WOULD HELP TREMENDOUSLY ! THANK YOU !

Good points I agree with Fred. Stop hammering increasing property taxes (highest in Stark County)on homes in NC so private sector modest wage earning blue color workers can afford to own a home in NC. This would slow the conversion to rentals that is making for the “decline” you mentioned.
