North Canton Council Signs on to Multi-Million Dollar Sewage Agreement

North Canton will give nearly $2 million toward $90 million worth of renovations and upgrades to Canton's sewage plant.

On Monday, City Council voted unanimously to pass a sewage agreement whereby North Canton will provide $1.9 million toward $90 million in renovations and upgrades to Canton’s sewage plant.

North Canton chipped in due to the fact that its waste gets routed through Canton's sewage plant in Canton Township. 

Council president Jon Snyder delayed approval after urging amended language be added to the pact's fine print, according to the Canton Repository,

The proposed amendment would have blocked Canton from requiring a property owner to be annexed into Canton, and allowed for the approval of a sewer-connection permit.

The permit would have granted developer TMI Hospitality, which plans to build a hotel at Everhard Road NW, the ability to buy water from North Canton versus Canton; however, after doing some research, TMI realized it could work with the Stark County Sanitary Engineering Department because its lines are connected to the site.

With that information, Snyder dropped the issue and voted along with his five peers to approve the agreement.
