NCPL Documents a 'Day in the Life of the Library' — And You're Invited

The North Canton Public Library will take part in a statewide project Thursday to show what a day in the life of a library is like

The North Canton Public Library is giving you a chance to see what a full day in the library is like — without you having to actually spend the whole day inside the library.

Here's what we mean.

The library will join others across the state to participate in “Snapshot Day: A Day in the Life of Ohio Libraries” Thursday to capture and share information about how important academic, public, school and special libraries and library systems are to the state of Ohio.

That day, the North Canton Public Library will compile statistics, customer comments, photographs, and other details representing a typical day at the library. The results collected and pictures taken at the library will be added to those of other libraries across the state to raise awareness about the important role of libraries in Ohio.

All photos will be available on Flickr.

Library patrons are welcome to join in the fun Thursday, said Christina Weyrick-Cooper, community relations manager at the North Canton Public Library.

“We invite patrons and visitors to stop in, or share their comments with us, and be a part of this historic day," she said. "Libraries are more important than ever to our communities, and library usage is at record levels. We want the residents of Ohio to see what a typical day is like for an Ohio library. This ‘snapshot’ will help us communicate to citizens, lawmakers and city officials that our patrons rely on us for many important services.”

More on the Snapshot Day:

Snapshot Day: A Day in the Life of Ohio Libraries is a project of the State Library of Ohio, the Ohio Library Council (OLC), Ohio Public Library Information Network (OPLIN), the Academic Library Association of Ohio (ALAO), Ohio Library and Information Network (OhioLINK – a consortium of college and university libraries), the Ohio Educational Library Media Association (OELMA), and the Information Network for Ohio Schools (INFOhio).

Each year, Ohio libraries will participate in this advocacy effort by collecting photographs, stories, information and comments to get a snapshot of a typical day in Ohio libraries. For more information about the statewide effort, click here.
