Mayor: Movie to be Filmed in North Canton

North Canton, surrounding area inspiration and setting for film by Canton native

North Canton and the surrounding area will be the site for a feature-length film, Mayor David Held announced at a press conference this afternoon.

The independent film, “Underdogs,” tells the story of a small-town high school football team playing their cross-town rival amid rumors of outsourcing for the city’s main employer.

Filming will begin July 16 and last for about five weeks. It will be directed by Canton native Doug Dearth.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to bring something back to my community,” Dearth said. “I'm very proud of where I came from. Plus, it's a football movie and what better place to shoot that than in Canton, anyway.”

Hey Awesome Ben! Auditions for movie extras will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Hoover Auditorium, 219 E. Maple St. (We'll have that info in our full story tomorrow.) But here's the thing, they're looking for people ages 18-24. Maybe they'll happen to have something for you though? You never know!

Hey Savannah! I'm going to have to echo what I told Ben. They're looking for people 18-24 but you never know if they'll need a couple younger actors. Good luck!

I found some info on the website about extras at http://www.underdogsthemovie.com/2012/06/sign-up-to-be-an-extra/
It doesn't say an age limit but it does say if you are 18 or younger you need to be with your parent or guardian.

Oh cool! Ben, I'm going to add that info to our new update today. Thanks for sharing!

What cities have outlawed cell phone usage while driving? Have you seen law enforcement breakingRead More those laws in those cities?
Fred Benson June 4, 2013 at 07:08 pm
Try Beechwood. $106 fine if caught. But the point of my post is, anyone driving and using a handRead More held phone are endangering others. The local police should be setting an example of safe driving rather than encouraging its use.

Police and other first responders OFTEN have to use their phones to call other departments,Read More hospitals and resources they use that they can't contact by radio. That's like saying a police officer or ambulance should have to follow the speed limits.
