North Canton and the surrounding area will be the site for a feature-length film, Mayor David Held announced at a press conference this afternoon.
The independent film, “Underdogs,” tells the story of a small-town high school football team playing their cross-town rival amid rumors of outsourcing for the city’s main employer.
Filming will begin July 16 and last for about five weeks. It will be directed by Canton native Doug Dearth.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to bring something back to my community,” Dearth said. “I'm very proud of where I came from. Plus, it's a football movie and what better place to shoot that than in Canton, anyway.”
