Moms Talk: How Do You Teach Your Kids About Money?

When's the right time to learn about money? And how does it benefit your kids to know the value of a dollar?

The moms on North Canton Patch Moms Council tossed around a few ideas this week and came up with this money-related question:

When and how should I teach my kids about money?

Lisa Lynch-Frank has a 3-year-old daughter and already has started teaching her some concepts, like not letting her get whatever she wants when they go to the store.

And local teacher Ginny Herman added some thoughts, too. She said some kids see their costly items as easily replaceable. But who's doing the replacing? Their parents. They often lose sight of what goes into earning the money to pay for their nice items.

"When I have my students rate a movie on how  much they would be willing to see the movie again, their opinion changes," Ginny wrote. "I always say it's your $8, not your parents'."
