Bees, E-books on Lineup for North Canton Public Library Classes Next Week

Interested in learning how to work your new e-reader? What about keeping bees? Your local library addresses both next week

There’s not much the same about bees and e-books, except that North Canton Public Library officials think discussions on both will benefit North Canton.

The library will host an introduction to e-books at 6 p.m. Tuesday and a beekeeping and gardening discussion at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Both will take place in the lower level of the library, at 185 N. Main St.

Reference librarian Cathy Morgan said she thinks North Canton Public Library patrons will have a strong interest in both, but they may attend the beekeeping and gardening discussion because they have good thoughts about the arrival of spring.

“I tried to market it ‘to beat the winter blues,’” Morgan said. “I think people just want to talk about spring, in any sense.”

Leading that class will be Deb Stocker, chair of the education committee for the Stark County Bee Keepers Association.

Morgan said Stocker will focus on pollination issues and how to keep honeybees thriving. She’ll also teach about how bees are beneficial to the environment.

Carrie Hayes, a technology coordinator with the North Canton Public Library, will lead the e-book class Tuesday.

“It’s definitely a growth industry,” Morgan said. “We’re seeing a real increase right now because I think a lot of these people got their devices for Christmas.”

The class will be a how-to guide about using e-readers and e-books. The ones that can be used with North Canton Public Library materials include the Sony e-reader, the Nook and iPad but not the Amazon Kindle.
