Visits from Dick Goddard and Inspirational Author Shelley Shepard Gray, Plus Genealogy, Sleep Health, and the Canton Heritage Home Program this week at Stark County District Library

Meet Dick Goddard and NYT Best Selling author Shelley Shepard Gray at the library this week. Plus, a Sleep Program, Home Maintenance, How to get a career in music, and more.

There’s a full schedule of events planned for this week at Stark County District Library, and it’s likely that there is something interesting for just about everyone. Northeast Ohio T V institution Dick Goddard will visit to talk about his new book, Six Inches of Partly Cloudy. New York Times Best-Selling author Shelley Shepard Gray will also visit this week to talk about her inspirational novels. Additionally, we present the first of three programs that focus on sleep, common sleep disorders, and achieving healthy sleep. Also this week, you can learn what it takes to start a career in the music business, and catch the first program in a series on Home maintenance: the Canton Heritage Home Program.

Meet New York Times Bestselling author of inspirational fiction, Shelley Shepard Gray on Tuesday, July 10 at Lake Community Branch. She is the author of the beloved Sisters of the Heart series, including Hidden, Wanted, and Forgiven, as well as the Seasons of Sugarcreek series, Heart of a Hero series, and numerous others.  A selection of her books will be a available for purchase and signing.

Learn how the Federal Census can help you learn about your ancestors at Genealogy: Effectively Using the Federal Census on Thursday, July 12 at East Canton Branch. The library’s expert genealogist will be on hand to demonstrate the wealth of information that can be drawn from the census, and the program will include the recently released 1940 census data.

Also on Thursday, July 12, North Branch hosts an Altered Book Craft. Bring an old book, or use one of ours to create a new and beautiful work of art.

Perry Sippo Branch hosts Karen Lehmiller RPSGT from the Mercy Medical Health Center Sleep Lab for Normal Sleep and Common Sleep Disorders on Thursday, July 12. She’ll talk about sleep and its function in your life. There are two other sleep programs scheduled for later this summer, here are links to both.

Do you dream of having a career in music? At Dream Big! Break into the Music Business, you can learn what it takes to submit your work to music companies, get practical guidelines for getting started in the music business, and more. This program is scheduled for Saturday, July 14 at Main Library.

Local broadcasting and meteorology institution Dick Goddard will visit Perry Sippo Branch on Saturday, July 14. He’ll present his newest book Six Inches of Partly Cloudy and share stories from his life and career.

On Monday, July 16, DeHoff Memorial Branch hosts the first of a four-part series of home maintenance and preservation programs. The Canton Heritage Home Program: Exterior Painting and Historic Color is the first of the series. The program helps owners of older and historic properties maintain and repair their homes. Experts will be available to help with advice and resources for making your home project run smoothly. The program is provided by the Cleveland Restoration Society with support from the Stark Foundation, Community Building Partnerships of Stark County and the Canton Preservation Society. Additional programs in the series include: Porches, History, Design and Construction; Maintenance and Efficiency; and Preservation 101. Here's a link to all of them.

I can’t sign off without mentioning a few of the programs for kids and teens this week: Tuesday, July 10: Out of This World Fashion: DIY Galaxy T-Shirts for teens at East Canton Branch.  Enjoy a visit and a craft from the Tooth Fairy at Plain Community Branch on Wednesday, July 11. Get Your Brain On with the Olympics of mental games also on Wednesday at Main Library. Thursday, July 12: Self-Protection for Teen Girls at Jackson Township Branch; GarageBand for teens at Sandy Valley Branch; make a dream catcher at Catch a Falling Star at North Branch; explore the starry skies with stories and crafts at East Canton Branch at When You Wish Upon a Star, and enjoy Campfire Stories at Lake Community Branch. Friday, July 13: Plant Your Dreams: Container Gardening for teens at DeHoff Memorial.
