The 5th Annual Antiques Appraisal Show, and a visit from Author Pamela King Cable at Stark County District Library

Did you know the Stark County District Library is More Than Books? The library provides free access to eBooks, audio books, music, and video through the Ohio eBook Project. Browse and search hundreds of popular titles and download them to computers, transfer them to portable tablets and devices, and enjoy them anywhere, any time. This week’s schedule includes the 5th Annual Antiques Appraisal Show, a visit from author Pamela King Cable, great after school programs for teens, and more.

Teens can get creative with digital photography at Teen Tech Week Facebook Photo Contest, at Main Library on Tuesday, January 22 and on Thursday, January 24 at Madge Youtz Branch. They’ll get to use the library’s Macbook Pros to create unique snapshots. They can vote on the best photos on Facebook. The winner from each branch will receive a prize. There are several other great after school programs for teens at SCDL this week. East Canton Branch offers its After School Program on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and teens can hang out, make crafts, play game tournaments, get homework help, and much more. On Wednesday, January 23 DeHoff Memorial Branch hosts Stay on Track with Healthy Snacks, where teens can learn how to skip the junk food and prepare healthy and tasty snacks after school. Also on Wednesday, Main Library offers British Social Club for teens who are into Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Who, Monty Python, and all things across the pond. Teens can learn how to craft soap on Wednesday at Wash the Winter Blues Away, held at Lake Community Branch. Additional teen programs include: Whatever Wednesday (on January 23) at North Branch, Monday Crafternoons on Mondays this winter at Main Library, and Creative Teens Club on Tuesdays at Sandy Valley Branch beginning January 29.

Get a free appraisal from certified appraiser and auctioneer David C. Morris. Call or go online to register, because the show fills up quickly.

Learn the basics of genealogy research at Beginning Genealogy on Monday, January 28 at Jackson Township Branch. Library staff will demonstrate how to use the 1940 census to find out about your ancestry, and they will acquaint you with the Genealogy Department research tools available to you. Bring some family history to begin filling in family group sheets.

Don’t miss author Pamela King Cable, who was born a coal miner’s granddaughter and was raised by storytellers, on Tuesday, January 29 at Lake Community Branch. She will present and sign her debut novel, Televenge. Library Journal says that fans of Fannie Flagg and Janet Evanovich will be attracted to Cable’s book which mixes crime, religion, and romance.
