Tech Q&A, Dr. Seuss' Birthday, Knitting, Gardening with Native Plants and Much More This Week at Stark County District Library

A sampling of programs this week at Stark County District Library includes, Tech Q & A, Dr. Seuss' Birthday, Knitting, Gardening, and Diabetes Self-Management.

The range of culture you can experience at Stark County District Library is pretty impressive. You can see it in just a sampling of this week's coming programs, with a Technology Q & A, Dr. Seuss' 108th Birthday, Knitting programs, Gardening with Native Plants, and the start of an informative Diabetes Self-Management workshop.

Each program below is linked to the Stark County District Library Events calendar, where you'll get more information about the program (such as the time the event is offered) and have the opportunity to register online or by phone to attend.

Teens feeling jumpy for Spring should stop by Main Library on Wednesday, Feb 29, for Jumping Frogs of Stark County. They'll get to create a frog to enter in our Frog Race, and enjoy the arcade classic video game Frogger. All on Leap Day. It's four years until the next one, so don't miss out.

The library's friendly and knowledgeable Information Technology specialists are back at it again this week. They will be available to answer your questions about computers, software, eReaders, and anything else tech-related you can think of at Jackson Township Branch on Thursday, Mar 1 during Technology Q & A.

Undoubtedly, Dr. Seuss would have enjoyed a good frog race. We'll celebrate his birthday at Main Library on Friday, Mar 2 during Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss with crafts, stories, and games. Additionally, Jackson Township Branch is hosting Dr. Seuss Mystery Books throughout the month of March. Use the clues on the mystery bags to guess which Dr. Seuss book is hidden inside and be eligible to win a "Seuss-sational prize." Incidentally, Dr. Seuss' website is pretty Seuss-sational as well, it's called "Seussville."

If you are looking to start a new hobby in 2012, why not try knitting? It's practical, social, relaxing, and you get to make stuff. There are several knitting groups that meet regularly at the library, and knitters of all skill levels are welcome to share projects, tips, and techniques. On Monday, Mar 5 no less than four locations of Stark County District Library will host knitting groups: Knitty Gritters Knitting Club at Lake Community Branch, In the Loop Knitters at DeHoff Memorial Branch, In Stitches: Knitting for Adults at Sandy Valley Branch, and Close Knit Group at Jackson Township Branch. That's not all, see the SCDL Events Calendar for a full list of knitting groups for adults, teens, and children.

With Spring around the corner, now is the time to plan your garden. Master Gardener Jeanne Poremski will present Native Plants for Northeast Ohio on Monday, Mar 5 at Jackson Township Branch. You'll learn why using plants native to Northeast Ohio is a good idea, and how you can use them to create a beautiful, healthy landscape.

On Tuesday, Mar 6, DeHoff Memorial Branch will host Diabetes Self-Management Workshop. Adults can learn how to monitor and control their blood sugar with diet and regular exercise. The workshop will meet each week on Tuesdays through April 10.

There are many other excellent events planned at a branch of the Stark County District Library near you, including children's story times, book groups for adults, computer classes, programs for teens, and much more.
