Summer Reading Club Kick-Off, Catching the Dream, How to Put Your House on a Diet, plus photography, genealogy, and more This Week at Stark County District Library

Visit a branch of Stark County District Library over the next seven days and help us celebrate summer reading at one of our many fun-filled Summer Reading Kick-Off events. Each branch has an afternoon of family-friendly activities planned, including refreshments, crafts, contests, stories, and visits from different special guests. Here's a link to the full list of Kick-Off events, dates, times, locations, and descriptions of what's planned. We hope to see you at one of them--it's a great way to spend a summer afternoon with your family at the library.

Starting this week, grades K-12 can Get in the Game, and be a Hall of Fame Reader by reading 100 minutes per week between June 11 and July 28 for a chance to win cool weekly prizes, and enter a Grand Prize Drawing that includes prizes from the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Also planned for this week is a program led by artist Rena Dennison on the origin of Native American Dreamcatchers, an all-ages photography 101 led by Cindy Jones of Cynthia's Photography, and a visit from author Sharon Kreighbaum, who'll help you put your home on a clutter reduction diet.

As always, each program listed here is linked to the Stark County District Library Events calendar, where you'll get more information about the program (such as the time the event is offered), and have the opportunity to register online or by phone to attend.

Don't forget, on Tuesday, June 12, Plain Community Branch offers When You Wish Upon a Star... Free Disney World Seminar. Presenter Michelle Boggs from Magical Memories will answer all of your questions about how to plan an unforgettable trip to the Magic Kingdom.

Learn all about the origin of Native American Dreamcatchers and craft a unique dreamcatcher pendant of your own at Catching the Dream, on Wednesday, June 13. This inspiring and enlightening program is presented by artist Rena Dennison, and is offered at Madge Youtz Branch in the afternoon, and Main Library in the evening. You can also be a part of this event on Monday, June 18 at Plain Community Branch, or at a branch near you in the coming weeks--here's a link to all the dates that Catching the Dream is scheduled.

With the recent release of the 1940 U.S. Census Records, it's an exciting time for genealogists. At Using Federal Census Records Effectively you can learn what census records can tell you about your ancestors and how these records can be a useful resource for genealogy. The program is offered on Saturday, June 16 at Lake Community Branch.

Get great advice on how to make your wedding day special at Planning a Wedding, on Monday, June 18 at Jackson Township Branch. Andrea Moore of Your Blessed Event planning company will show you how to simplify and prioritize the steps involved, answer questions and demonstrate fun, inexpensive ways to personalize your day and make it special.

All ages are invited to Perry Sippo Branch on Tuesday, June 19 to Photography 101. Get to know your camera, learn what makes a good photograph and how to shoot them from Cindy Jones of Cynthia's Photography. Then, use your newly acquired skills to enter the Stark County District Library Photo Contest at a branch near you. Additionally, Lake Community Branch is running its 7th Annual Photo Contest, sponsored by Quail Hollow State Park Camera Club, so be sure to check that one out too.

Also, on Tuesday, June 19, Hudson, Ohio author Sharon Kreighbaum will visit Lake Community Branch for Is Your House Overweight? She'll offer practical advice for de-cluttering your home. Her book Is Your House Overweight? will be available for purchase and signing.

There are many other excellent events planned at a branch of the Stark County District Library near you, including children's story times, book groups for adults, computer classes, programs for teens, and much more. For those of you who can't attend the seminar on planning a trip to Disney World check out my six part series on going to Disney World with little children. Start here http://northcanton.patch.com/blog_posts/going-to-disney-world-with-little-children with part 1. Even though the articles are written with an emphasis on taking the trip with little children there are plenty of general tips that can make your trip more pleasant. And now is a good time to book a trip with many specials offered by Disney; click on the banner ads that you see on The Patch and save.

Excellent post! Thanks Ken! You should do a presentation on Disney World at the library sometime!
